Ghost River Outfitters offers a quality bear hunt in the wilderness
of North Eastern Ontario. Specializing in black bear archery
hunts, we provide excellent success rates. Since our inception
we have catered to 175 hunters, providing all but 12 of the
hunters the opportunity to harvest bear. Many of our hunters
have had multiple opportunities to take bear and have successfully
harvested 128. We have also provided many hunters the opportunity
to harvest trophy bear with twenty-nine of our bear harvested
being Pope and Young class with the highest official score
to date of 20&10/16.In operation since the spring of 1994,
Ghost River Outfitters is operated by Ray Durham, a professional
trapper with over 30 years of trapping experience in Northern
Ontario and Saskatchewan.
We
provide accommodations consisting of fully equipped housekeeping
cabins at Perry
Lake Lodge a 10 mile drive along Hwy 101 from our bear
management area.
Each hunter is guaranteed active bait. All our baits will
have been set a minimum of 30 days prior to your arrival and
checked every 48 hours prior to hunting. Most of our baits
are permanent tree stands placed 10 to 12 feet off the ground,
and are equipped with trail timers providing you with a record
of bear feeding activity. We are also starting to use some
trail cameras at baits to provide more information on bear
activity. Hunters can expect shots of 10 to 12 yards. We also
have some baits set for gun hunters who can expect shots of
25 to 50 yds.
Your
guide will initially take you out to the bait area after which
travel to and from the bait is your responsibility. Your guide
will check in with you on a daily basis, providing bait, assisting
in tracking, removing and skinning bear as required.
We
have boats and motors available at locations that offer excellent
northern pike and walleye fishing during bear hunts. Small
game hunting, fishing, and photography packages also available
upon request.
New for 2010 we have recently acquired a further 300 sq. km
of bear management area, some of which hasn’t been previously
hunted. With this additional area we anticipate continued
high success rates with great opportunities for record book
bears. Typically we are booked well in advance of the seasons
hunt and are currently taking reservations for 2010.
